An update on the
National Fuel Fracking Pipeline.
They are having a
problem in Pendleton and Wheatfield . The citizens of Pendleton and Wheatfield do not like the idea
of having a compressor in their community. They do not regard it as
safe. There are fears about fire, explosions, the fracked gas that
will be piped through it, and how close it is to wetlands.
National Fuel, for
its part, is spouting its same old lies. The compressor is “safe”
and they are going to designate only a certain amount of land for
the compressor site. The rest will be set up as protected wetlands
so that they won't be able to expand into it.
Right. And pigs can
fly.
No talk about the
fact that this is fracked gas coming from Pennsylvania and how
dangerous that is to the environment and the people in the
communities down there. No talk about how unsafe pipelines are and
that they have no means of monitoring it in order to control leaks.
I saw photographs of
the KXL pipes that the photographer saw daylight through. From the
inside. These pipes were already corroded before they went into the
ground.
National Fuel wants
to build a pipeline that is going to pass near wetlands and pump a
toxic concoction of fracking chemicals and natural gas through
Western NY so that it can be sold in Canada.
No deal.
As socialists (and
environmentalists) we demand :
1. No pipeline to
Canada. (No trucks carrying fracked gas either.)
2. An end to
fracking in Pennsylvania.
3. Investment in
solar, wind, and tidal energy production instead of polluting carbon
based energy.
The groups have a
Facebook page and are very active in voicing their opposition and educating people.
They are doing what
they need to be doing.
Now it's our turn.
Let's go.
