Supreme Court Justice

Of course the Buffalo News is upset about a recent Supreme Court case.

Why?  It favored unions and the working class and not the 1%.

In Friedrichs vs California Teachers Association a 4-4 tie meant that a lower court ruling was the the "law of the land" and that unions could collect union dues from people that are covered under the collective bargaining agreement even though they don't want to belong to the union.

There is a simple ruling that the Court could have made - If you don't want to belong to the union and pay dues,  you don't have to.
You are also not covered by any union contact or collective bargaining agreement.
You also will not receive any benefits that come from that agreement - like pay raises, insurance of any form,  sick days, personal days,  union representation,  etc.
Everything I willingly shell out money for every month because I know that it benefits me & my fellow co-workers.

Very simple ruling.
And it would have struck down an anti-union/anti-worker law that the congress put into effect after WWII that mandated that unions cover non-union workers when there is an open shop - where workers are covered by a union contract even though they don't pay dues to it.

So if a non-union member has a grievance,  let them hire a lawyer that specializes in labor law.

When it comes time for a pay raise,  negotiate it yourself.

Have a problem with a performance review?  Hire your own lawyer.

That's the OP-ED that the Buffalo News should have written.

The News is opposed to any victory that the working class receives.  No matter how small.
And they will use the power of their pages to promote their anti -union,  anti-working class attitude.

Never mind that the working class makes their paper possible.
They can sell all the advertising they want.  If no one buys the paper and looks at the ads,  the ad revenue will dry up and then they will join the ranks of the Courier Express and other papers that have gone belly up.

So while they complain about the decision,  they need to look at their own wallets and lifestyles and ask themselves how they want to live.

Their lifestyles are dependent upon the success of the working class.

Then again,  I still want a labor newspaper in WNY.
