National Fuel's
Northern Pipeline is facing a Pennsylvania Problem. It has too many
wells that produce too much gas in an unusually warm winter.
That spells a profit
problem. To the tune of $189 million dollars.
That doesn't mean
that the Northern Access pipeline is going to be stopped. It is just
going to be slowed down.
To address the glut,
National Fuel shut down two of its drilling rigs and is operating
only one. The wells will still be drilled and linked. Just at a
slower pace.
The pipeline's
opening date has been pushed back to late 2017.
This is not a
victory for pipeline opponents. This is merely a delay in National
Fuel's victory.
We need to continue
the fight against the pipeline.
Environmentalists
need to:
1. Oppose any more
drilling for fracking wells in Pennsylvania.
2. Oppose the
upgrades to the pipeline in Western New York.
3. Oppose the
compressor station and evaporator in Pendleton.
4. Fight for
wetlands protection in Pendleton and Wheatfield.
This pipeline
project needs to be shut down.
Right now it is just
being delayed.
We need to stand up
and fight harder now to end what National Fuel wants to put through
our back yards.
This is our best
opportunity.
To borrow a line
from Flight 93 – Let's go.
