Bracketing Women Out

March Madness is starting and every sports minded student (and faculty member) is getting their bracket ready. And they are wasting the toner in our school printers to do so. I cut the bracket out of my home newspaper because I don't care about the whole charade and I wanted to savesome toner for something important. Like a school paper.

It's the modern day opiate of the masses to me.
In the old days it was religion.
Now it's sports.

I asked anyone if they wanted the women's bracket. They are involved in this whole charade too.
And it is “Women's History Month” to boot.

No one wanted it.
No one cared.
No one even knew there was a women's bracket.
This in spite of UB & St Bonaventure's women's teams getting in on the the big dance.

I had to explain to a group of female students that there was a women's bracket for March Madness. They didn't believe me and still didn't want it.

I even explained to them about the WNBA – Professional Women's basketball.
They didn't know it existed.

Nor did they know about professional women's football. Not the lingerie league – women playing football in bras and panties. With the men watching hoping that something gets ripped off. Women in full pads, helmets playing real smash mouth football.

Never heard of it.

I even told them about the Women's Hockey League with the 4 US and (I'm not sure) how many Canadian teams. (OK. They also play college teams too.)

Never heard of it.

Come to think of it, I'm not sure if there is a women's professional baseball league.
We all know of Jennie Finch and the Olympic team.
Anything beyond that?

So, is the only way to get women's sports noticed is lingerie?

The high school that I work at had such a bad football season one year that I proposed four females for the front line that could probably throw around the opposition like rag dolls. And the four were far from lady like. (Physiques and mouths. I know that 2 of them could put a trucker to shame for language.) Nobody doubted that the four I spoke of could do the job.
It's just that they were girls, and….. Well, you know.

The all boys team won only 1 game.
Nothing to brag about there.
I think it was the consolation game for the two worst teams.
It is jokingly called the “Toilet Bowl.”

So what do we have to do as a society to recognize women's athletics and have women's athletic abilities recognized what they are?

Surely the capitalists in their money green and white towers can come up with some sort of idea.

Something other than lingerie.
