I'd like to see a
discussion of socialism in Western New York.
I constantly read of
how popular is is among the millennial generation. We all know –
the Bernie supporters. Bernie has popularized Scandinavian
Socialism. Basically capitalism with a “friendly face.” (My
opinion.)
I would like to have
a discussion of what real socialism is.
In Oakland the local
Socialist Action branch hosted a conference that included Bernie
supporters, the Party of Socialism and Liberation, the Green Party,
Socialist Action, and commentary by Glen Ford of the Black Agenda
Report.
I would have liked
to have seen the Socialist Party USA at the conference. They are
running candidates for president. It's only fair.
The article in the
February Socialist Action newspaperhighlighted comments from the different groups.
Can
we do the same here?
Who's
in?
And
where do we hold it?
Could
we get space at UB? Or one of the other colleges? Or perhaps
Babeville will open it's doors. (It's what Ani DiFranco calls her
recording studio and auditorium in Buffalo. She bought a closed down
church and turned it into a recording studio and concert hall.)
Let's
set aside the “animosities” between the tendencies and have a
discussion of what we see real socialism as being.
I
think it would be an interesting day.
Certainly
more interesting than the Republican convention that is going on in
Buffalo this weekend.
And
more people would probably attend too.
Anyone
interested?
