Who's in Charge Here?

In reading today's news and preparing to blog, one idea just kept creeping up in my mind.

Who's in charge here?

Seriously.

Part One: India Cummings death in the Erie County Holding Center.

OK. The state is investigating, as it always does when something like this happens, and it seems to happen quite a bit at the Holding Center,

She clearly was having a bad reaction to something – her family suspects K2. Why was appropriate medical treatment not given to calm her down or sedate her? Even if it means bringing family from Rochester here, getting her treated (with their help) , and then taking her to the Holding Center?

And then, in the third to last paragraph of the “official op-ed,” it is stated (and I quote this):

“Holding Center officials then got a court order releasing Cummings form the Holding Center, meaning that, officially at least, her death was not an in-custody death. Later, jail personnel told the state agency that Cummings had died, although they weren't required to do so because she was no longer an inmate.”

What the … ?

I'm trying to wrap my brain around that one without using any profanity.

If you can do so, please tell me how.

And how does the Buffalo News even print something like that?
There had to be a better way to phrase that as to not sound … something.

My brain is going to explode on this.

Who exactly is in charge of that mess?
The incident at the Holding Center and then that OP-ED.
I know when I calm down the “justification” will (might) “make sense.”
Right now I'm heating my house without using the furnace or fireplace.

Part Two: Solar City and the Buffalo Billion.

The more I read this the more I feel like we're operating in a Kafka-esque bureaucracy.

Governor “Status“ Cuomo promises $1 billion to rebuild and restart the WNY economy after it is devastated by the so called “free trade” agreements of the Clinton and Bush II administrations. (In a way it is free. Free for the corporations to trade good paying American jobs away for near, if not real, slave labor in second and third world countries. So the corporations can freely move jobs away.)

Thing is, he doesn't really have the billion dollars. It's some place. Possibly. And now 110 of the 200 laid off workers are still out of work because the money is still tied up in Albany some place in some agency somewhere.

And to explain it all away, “Status” Cuomo send the #2 person in the state, Lt. Governor Kathy Hochol, to try and explain the SNAFU.

I'm not even going to try to type the explanation because it's even more confusing than the quote on India Cummings (I'll say her name).

That and I'm low on headache medication.

The Buffalo News tried to explain in as few paragraphs as possible.

If you hooked up an alternator to your head after reading the article, you would probably out generate the Niagara Falls Power Plant for electricity.

Kafka would be proud of the whole explanation, if only he could understand it.

Perhaps he could write a short story about it that we could laugh at.

Then again, it's our taxes being spent to bribe a private corporation to set up shop here.
And there are 110 workers waiting to be called back to work.

And in all of this, it seems that no one knows what is going on.
People are dying.
Jobs are idling.

And we're supposed to trust those in power.

How?

And why should we?
