Failing Democracy

It's election time and the capitalist press -the Buffalo News, et al - has done what they see as their duty of endorsing the candidates that they believe will best serve the interests of the capitalist class.  Not the working class. The capitalist class.  Then again, who owns the Buffalo News but one of America's biggest capitalists: Warren Buffet.  He makes his billions off the stock market backing monopolies while the rest of us struggle to make him money and take care of ourselves.  The broadcast media is also overwhelming owned by corporations from outside of WNY as well.  Aside from a few low power AM & FM stations, everything you hear is corporate.

And all the candidates endorsed are either Democrats or Republicans.  What do you expect when the 1% owns both?

The responsibility of the media is to inform and educate the voters on the candidates and issues, not program us.

Nowhere was their any coverage of 3rd party candidates at all.  If they were covered, it was incidental or accidental. Never in any depth. This is intentional.

While I am unaware of any socialists running for the position of Governor in NY,  the News could have provided some coverage to Howie Hawkins of the Green Party.  In the last election he scored 3rd place with ~175,000 votes. All things being equal,  that's pretty good for a third party candidate in a state with little to no state wide independent media and little to no coverage from the corporate owned media.

The Libertarians are running a candidate, as is the Save America Movement. The responsibility of the press & media is to cover them. I will not spend any time giving pro-capitalist  candidates coverage.

So, what are we to do?
Get on the backs of the News  and other media to cover all candidates equally and fairly.
I know many people that have dropped their subscription  and have turned off their radios & tvs because the coverage is predictable and tedious.
Give us more than just the 2 faces of capitalism and people might just get interested again.

Imagine that - capitalists meeting the interests of their communities.
