A Lake of Betrayal filled with Lies

I received a copy of Lake of Betrayal to watch from a friend.  It is a documentary that covers the Federal government's theft of land from the Seneca Nation

This is a must watch documentary that helps us understand some of the conflict and distrust between the Seneca Nation and the federal government.

The Kinzua Dam was built on the premise that it would help alleviate flooding of Pittsburgh.  To build the dam, the government  had to break federal law - violate the Treaty of Canandaigua  - and take treaty land away from the Seneca Nation.  Never mind that an alternative site for the dam was proposed that would have cost less and directed the water away from Pittsburgh.   This was all about taking land away from the Native Americans and forcing them into the hidden policy of termination.  This means that the Nation no longer exists and the government no longer has to abide by a treaty that they negotiated.

The government lied to the Seneca Nation and the American people in  many ways.
There was a better site for the dam and would have cost less money to build.
The dam was supposed to be used only for flood control and not electricity generation.
The government would provide fair compensation to those affected. (Eminent Domain dismisses any claims for fair compensation. )

The story is sad and tragic.
And the Seneca Nation is still here.

The documentary is going to be on PBS in Buffalo (Channel 17-1)  this Saturday (November 3rd  at 5:30 PM) and is well worth watching.

Caleb Abrams uses incredible cinematography in telling the story, with shots of the lake and historical footage from the time of the destruction of the land.
He also uses interviews from  people that suffered the tragedy to tell the story. Many powerful words are spoken from the heart.

And his use of irony is incredible.  I keep hearing about how we need to go back to when the church was more influential in society and he shows a scene of the Federal Government burning down  a church building that served the Seneca community. There is more.

There's so much more,  but you need to see it for yourself.
It's only an hour long.
I want to know what didn't get in. What's on the cutting room table.
Information like this should never be on the floor.

11/3/18 My apologies to getting Caleb's name incorrect in my original post. It is Abrams. Thank you for the correction.
