I, for one, am tired of the media failures involving elections. I can go on about their failure to analyze policies, political statements, blah blah blah.
I am most tired of the horse race coverage and declaration of a winner before the vote is certified by the State.
Did the State announce a winner between Collins & McMurray? No! Why? All the votes were not counted. There are 15,000 mail in ballots waiting to be counted. This race is still open. What is the media thinking?
I know. It's a horse race to see who can project a winner first.
But what if the media is wrong?
What is the consequence?
No one should be wasting their time on prognostications. The media needs to focus on the issues, fact finding, fact checking, holding candidates accountable, etc. And cover all the candidates for the race. I heard nothing about Howie Hawkins, Larry Sharpe, or Stephanie Miner. It is not up to the media to decide that they do not have a chance. It is up to the media to educate us about all the candidates and then the voters decide on election day.
Yes, i know that was a bit off topic from Collins- McMurray, but it's a part of the media failing democracy. We can look to Georgia and Florida for other media fails.
I am sick of this horse race to be number one in reporting winners.
If the media is wrong in any of these races, they won't be ahead by a nose.
They will be bringing up the rear and be looking like a horse's.....
