Pathetic & Predicted

The Catholic Church responded to the actions taken by Siobhan O'Connor in a predictable and pathetic way.

Nowhere in the response does it address the issues of child abuse and cover up in any substantial manner.  Instead, what we receive is a litany of emails between the Bishop and the Secretary where she essentially sings praises about working for him and under his (mis)leadership.

This is completely unacceptable.  The Bishop needs to explain why the Catholic Church has spent untold amounts of time and money covering up crimes and protecting pedophile priests and doing very little, if anything, to help the victims receive justice. The Bishop also needs to explain why the Church has refused to provide law enforcement with the information that it had as soon as it received it so that the perpetrators could be arrested and out in jail instead of being sent to a different  church where they could repeat their crimes.

This whole situation /crisis is what arises when leadership is unaccountable to anyone.  The Church has long known of this crisis and has used its power to shield the criminals and persecute the victims.

It is obvious that the unaccountable  patriarchy cannot be trusted to lead the Church anymore.

This is one time that I believe that the FBI must assert its power and investigate the Church, arrest and charge those that committed the crimes and those that protected them.

Furthermore,  the Church needs to change its leadership structure so that it is accountable to the congregations that they serve.

Siobhan did the right thing acting as a whistle blower and has helped point out the hypocrisy of the Church.
Now we need the Church to do the right thing and stop protecting pedophiles.

Turn over all the names now.
With all the files and information available.

Stand up for the victims of abuse instead of standing on them.
